Denard "Coach Mac" MacAlister​

Championship-Winning Coach / AAU Program Founder / Military Veteran / Educator & Mentor

 

Denard McAlister is a passionate and experienced basketball coach with a proven track record of developing athletes both on and off the court. With a strong background in leadership, mentorship, and strategic game planning, he has successfully guided teams across multiple levels, from middle school to high school varsity and AAU programs. His coaching philosophy emphasizes teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship while fostering individual player growth and competitive excellence.

A dedicated educator and mentor, Denard holds an Associate of Arts in Early Childhood Education from Liberty University and has obtained various coaching certifications, including officiating, sports concussions, and ACL injury prevention. His experience as a U.S. Army veteran and JROTC instructor has further strengthened his leadership skills, instilling values of perseverance, discipline, and teamwork in his athletes.

Throughout his coaching career, Denard has led teams to championship victories, helped players advance to collegiate and professional levels, and expanded basketball programs to provide greater opportunities for young athletes. His extensive experience includes head coaching roles at Statesville High School, Wheeler Middle School, and Fayetteville Christian High School, as well as founding and managing the highly successful Team Flex Hawaii AAU program.

Denard McAlister is now seeking a coaching position in an independent school where he can continue to make a meaningful impact on athletes’ growth, both as players and as individuals.

Coaching Highlights:

• Led Wheeler Middle School to a championship victory in 2018 (16-1 record).

• Coached Fayetteville Christian JV to its first conference title with an undefeated 20-0 season.

• Founded and expanded Team Flex Hawaii, taking teams to major tournaments across the U.S. and internationally.

• Developed numerous athletes who went on to play at collegiate and professional levels.

• Served as Player/Head Coach for the 3rd Military Information Support Battalion, leading the team to four consecutive championships (40-1 record).​
